A month or so ago, we contacted our landlords because we had seen a ridiculous amount of spiders and insects infest our home. They were kind enough to send over an exterminator and rid us of our many-legged house guests. A few days later, we found a hobo spider just outside our home, and other large spiders literally knocking at our door, but had yet to see anything but mosquitos, flies, and moths actually inside since the extermination. We thought we were home-free.
A few days ago, Robbie noticed a painful spot on his lower back that seemed to be getting larger and more tender as time passed. This morning, he was able to make an appointment with our doctor who confirmed that it was, in fact, a hobo spider bite. Unfortunately, it actually injected venom, so it's quite painful and yucky, and happens to be at the exact spot his belt rests on his back. Poor guy.
Anyway, I heard a bit ago (after the exterminator came) that the bug spray exterminators use doesn't kill hobo spiders. It kills the spiders that eat hobo spiders. Sweet. We do have the sticky traps around our house, but they've been there for about a month, and we have yet to catch anything but dust in them. Any ideas about how to nab the uglies???

All I can say is I am so sorry!! I would be a freaking mess if I knew that thing was in my house. If I hear of ANYTHING to do to catch that beast I will let you know! Good luck!
When we lived in Logan we had tonz of Hobo spiders also. One night I was in bed and felt a tickle on my face. Jumped out of bed, flipped the light on, and found a Hobo spider on my pillow. I freaked out, carried my pillow to the bathroom, and dropped the spider in the toilet. I them went into the kitchen to get a drink, opened the cubbord and found two more hobo spiders. I squished those and then turned around and found yet another one crawling on the stove. By that point Rob and I thought we were on Aracnaphobia, literally!. We were so freaked out we took all the sheets off the bed (so no spiders could hide) and spent the rest of the night on a bare matress with the lights on. As far as killing them...winter was all that brought releif. I wish you better luck than we had.
I am so glad you posted this picture!!! The other day I was sitting on the couch and Keagan was playing in the kitchen and started laughing and he was playing with a spider. I caught it and took a picture of it, but accidentally erased it last night before I could look it up. It was a hobo!! It looked exactly like that!! UGH!! Why do we live in spider houses?!
GROSS!!! I hate spiders and would not do so well in that situation. Good luck with all of that.
Eeeww!!!! I HATE spiders. I know they serve a purpose in the food chain, but...eeewww!
ahhh i Hate spiders!! They scare the be-geez outta me! Big and small i don't like ANY!! We had a tranula in our house in St George one time- Em tried to hit it with a broom (mind you it was on the ceiling) it's a funny story you should ask her!! :o) PS so where ARE you guys living now??
wow..okay!! wow!! alright, not so good about the extermination! I would be ticked. especially with a new little guy. and your poor friend that has a serious investation of them in her logan apartment...wow! there could be worse things I guess but anyways now that Im seriously itchy ALL OVER, I will tell you something. We have caught one hobo in our apartment on a sticky trap. We have one in EVERY corner just because I am seriously seriously so so scared of spiders! My dad uses this on his farm and stuffy and it works awesome for spiders not killing his crops and now he uses it in their house and all of my sisters, so when we moved in, he sprayed our house with "Ortho Max Bug B Gone" or something along that title for spiders and we have not had like any in a long long time. Besides the GINORMOUS on that is on our sticky trap! so try Lowes or somwhere like that!! Bri was bit by a hobo when we first moved in or something of the sort, we never went to the doc but we called it that because it was big and sore and very tender!
EWW okay i was just browsin cause i thought you guys were someone else lol sorry. But they have that spider killer at star nursery we had problems last summer at our house and it seemed to cure it. GOOD LUCK! I hate spiders :P
